Hair extensions were once an expensive, Hollywood-exclusive option for hair styling that few women could enjoy, whether because of the price point, or lack of trained professionals in their area. Fortunately, this option has gained a lot of popularity, making this option not so exclusive and more widely-available. Despite its popularity, applying hair extensions may require some skill, depending on the technique.

There are several techniques for applying hair extensions. Some are quite easy and inexpensive, while others are a little more complicated and therefore, a little more expensive. As with most products, you get what you pay for, and knowing what to expect from each technique can help you to decide which one you would like to try. The first thing to consider when getting extensions is the hair type and color. The options for the type of hair include wavy, curly and straight. Additionally, customers can choose between human or synthetic hair as an option. Although synthetic hair costs much less than human hair, it does not last as long and tends to look a little unnatural.While most women will choose a type based on their own natural hair type and color, some may choose to try something other than their own hair type.

Adding a little variety to the extensions allows one to try something different, without making a commitment to do so with their own hair; the extensions are removable, so they can be replaced if the customer does not like the look. As an added benefit, it is not always necessary to see a professional hair stylist in order to apply the hair clips. Unfortunately, this type of extension does not look as natural as the other techniques. Bonded hair extensions are the most natural-looking application, and can last for up to three months. However, they are a little more expensive and time-consuming. Despite these drawbacks, many women prefer the bonded process for its longevity and natural look. Since the bonded process is a little more complicated, it is important to find a skilled hair technician to avoid damage to your own hair.

When it comes to getting hair extensions, it is possible to try out a few different looks before deciding on a more long-term look. Finding a good hair stylist will be important, especially if you need advice on trying these different looks to find one that is worthy of one of the more long-term techniques.
